The magazine Jaarboek Kritiek organised on Friday the 27th of January a debate with the German activist Detlef Hartmann. More than thirty people were present.
Hartman gave a fascinating account on the current global economic crisis and on the possibilities for resistance. In the discussion with the public, the underlying causes of the crisis were analysed. The international aspects of the resistance against the crisis were shown: a new internationalism with grass roots organisations of women and peasants at the forefront in actions in the Third World. The question was also asked to what extent capitalism has become vulnerable through the use of ICT technologies.
In his answers to these questions, Hartmann stressed the importance of concrete actions and of the diversity of resistance at grass root level rather than ideologies and organised political parties.
We ended the evening at the IIRE bar with a beer and a glass of wine.
