El pasado 31 de agosto terminaba la edición de este año de la Escuela de Jóvenes del IIRE. El balance final realizado por los participantes reflejaba la intensidad de la experiencia formativa y la calidad general de las ponencias.
26 participantes, venidos de 11 países distintos, conviveron durante diez días para estudiar, leer, y debatir. Así describía su llegada al instituto Vinicius Almeida (del PSoL brasileño) en su blog:
In Cuba, there is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite, Transsexual (LGBTT) movement whose gestation is found at the intersection of the state and organised civil society. This movement seeks to tackle the main themes of LGBTT reality from the perspective of human rights, health and social integration, while inserting itself into the national project of edifying a just society.
Las aportaciones a la teoría de género de los últimos 20 años, en particular lateoría Queer, cambian la aproximación marxista a la cuestión de la opresión de género, y de tal modo que demanda la superación de una aproximación basada en el establecimiento de una jerarquía de prioridades entre opresiones. En este año el annual Foro de la Izquierda (antiguo Conferencia de Formación Socialista), Cinzia Arruzza, de la delegación del IIRE, impartió un taller para debatir sobre este reto: “¿Hay una confrontación entre Marxismo y Género?”.
En marzo de 2011, tuvimos el honor de recibir la visita de la nueva embajadora de Cuba para los Países Bajos, Zelmys María Domínguez Cortina. La embajadora se reunión con la Directora Ejecutiva del IIRE Marijke Colle, los ex-directores Susan Cladwell y Antonio Carmona Báez, el compañero del IIRE James Cockcroft y una delegación del IIRE de Manila.
The IIRE's latest newsletter spotlights some impresisve accomplishments by the Institute's fellows. The lastest Asian edition of the Global Justice School (GJS), and the Youth School in Amsterdam are also reported. The newslatter also highlights the plans for our upcoming GJS in Amsterdam and other developments. The IIRE's successful contribution to the European Social Forum, also reported in this issue, is one of the reasons why we are extending our fundraising partnership with the SOWS, a Dutch foundation for scientific research.
The IIRE-Manila made a huge step forward in its second Global Justice School in August, with 22 attendees discussing context, movements and on alternative organizing for change. It can confirm that ten organisations are likely to take part in the third school, in the summer of 2011, and that numerous seminars will take part at the Manila campus before then. However, financial support remains needed to help participants to travel to Manila.
