Concluding remarks on the discussion
Dominic Brown is an activist and leads the economic justice programme at the Alternative Information & Development Centre, Cape Town, South Africa .
This introduction to the discussion was presented by Soma Marik, socialist-feminist scholar from India and author of Revolutionary Democracy. Emancipation in Classical Marxism.
The first but long-awaited seminar on anti-racist work was held in July 2020. Despite the particular conditions – an online seminar being able to meet only for a limited number of hours per day – there was a very positive balance sheet in terms of participation and content. There were 40-60 participants in this 4 day seminar. Participants were from Latin America, United States, Europe and South and South East Asia
This summer the IIRE had two very successful international activities. From 6 to 10 of August, we organized the sixth LGBTIQ strategy seminar. These seminars are spaces for radical left LGBTIQ liberation activists to develop theory and strategy. This year's seminar was especially focused on issues of pink-washing and homo-nationalism, the use of (rhetorical) support for LGBTIQ rights to whitewash imperialism and nationalism. We had participants from Lebanon, Britain Palestine, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, Australia, Portugal, France, and the Netherlands.
Women’s Seminar 2015 assembled successfully at IIRE from 4th to 8th July. Organized by the women’s commission of the Fourth International , the seminar was attended by 30 women from 12 countries. Apart from Western European countries, there were participants from Philippines, Mexico, and the USA. The participants came from wide range of ages, from 17 to 70.
The women’s commission of the Fourth International is organising a women’s seminar from 4th of 8th July inclusive.
We want to strengthen our analysis and theory in order better to participate in current discussions in the feminist movement and also integrate the different generations of women members of the Fourth International in these debates.
The IIRE is planning its programme of activities for 2015. Two seminars are already confirmed.
The Fifth LGBT seminar at the IIRE took place from July 26 to July 29. Like the previous seminars, it was a gatherings of activists in LGBT movements from around the world who are committed to radical anti-capitalist politics.
The aim of the LGBT Seminar is to share and develop ideas on the most pressing topics concerning the struggle for human rights in the LGBT community, debate about strategies for LGBT liberation , and discuss how to participate in LGBT struggles on the basis of an anti-capitalist political project.
